Gun Culture 2.0

AAC

Rachel Aust, Welder/Machinist/Gunsmith for Advanced Armament Corp. at Shot Show

Richard L. Johnson

The gun community has forever changed.  Once in a supposed slow decline, the popularity of shooting and gun ownership has come roaring back during the past couple of decades.  Sales of firearms are setting all kinds of records, and gun ranges are frequently packed with people.

Michael Bane calls the latest generation of gun owners “Gun Culture 2.0,” which I find to be an exceptionally apt description.  Much like the move from the “old” internet, to the current generation of interactive and social web sites was called “Web 2.0,” the Gun Culture 2.0 is a similarly remarkable change in our own community.

But the new generation of gun owners no longer fit the old-school sportsmen look of yesteryear.  The new generation of gun owners are fiercely independent, yet socially active – especially in the online space.  The new generation comes from urban centers as well as middle America.  New gun owners are of all genders, colors, creeds and social strata.  They are not Elmer Fudd.

Unlike the reserved approach to politics that the traditional firearms lobby has taken, the new generation is outspoken, unashamed and willing to fight for what they believe.  They are educated on the origins of the Second Amendment and the fundamental right to be free.  They do not advocate for the Second Amendment as a right to hunt, rather they perceive it as a guaranteed ability to resist an oppressive government.

But, why the shift?  There are a variety of reasons, but I contend the internet is the primary reason for the revolution in the gun culture.

No single material thing is likely to have had a greater impact on humanity than the internet.  The internet, and more specifically, the world wide web, has allowed people to communicate around the country and all over the world with virtually no interference from the government.  Being able to come together and share ideas about politics, self defense and recreational shooting has helped cause a surge in new gun ownership – especially by people who have never been exposed to the “traditional” methods of introduction into our community.

Instead of the image of the white male father dressed in flannel taking his son off to the woods for the traditional deer hunt, the new image of gun ownership is much broader and more diverse.  The members of the 2.0 gun culture are more likely to own an AR15  with a suppressor than a Winchester Model 70.  And, you can rest assured that a new gen gun owner is likely to be carrying a Glock or KelTec when you run into them at the local coffee shop.

In today’s gun culture, there are many more women, a broader mix of races and a wider range of backgrounds.  Instead of being a clean cut poster child of the 1950’s many gun owners are bikers or body art enthusiasts covered with tattoos.  Others are fashion conscious while others still are computer nerds.  Members of the new gun generation range in age from teens to retirees.

The point is, our culture has changed.  And, it has changed for the better.  We attract all kinds of people into the gun world because all of the lies about us are easily disproven now that the mass media no longer has control over what people know.  The internet has allowed the truth about firearms to get out.

How the industry will respond to the culture shift remains to be seen.  Some companies, like Advanced Armament Corporation (AAC), have fully embraced the new paradigm.  As a result, they have gained the confidence of many members of the gun culture and have played a role in shaping the future.

AAC, for example, is a manufacturer of silencers.  Some 20 years ago, silencers were considered the tools of assassins and criminals.  Through the educational work of AAC and others like them, perspective on sound suppressors has radically changed, and they are far more common on the range today than they ever have been in the past.  Without embracing Gun Culture 2.0, the upswing in acceptance of silencers would never have taken place.

Others, however, have not made any moves to change with the times.  I fear that some of those companies will not survive.  I overheard two executives from a major firearms company discussing the internet culture in the airport after the SHOT Show this year.  It was obvious they had no idea how to approach the new crop of gun owners so they were trying to convince themselves that they didn’t matter.  I wonder if those two used to sell typewriters or pagers?

The gun culture has changed.  If you are from the old guard, reach out to the new shooters every chance you get.  They are a powerful force that can help safeguard all of our freedoms going forward.

Open Carry Book for Children is #1 Bestseller on Amazon.com

My Parents Open Carry, a book authored by founding members of Michigan Open Carry and Michigan Carry, has become a number one bestseller on Amazon.com proving once again that the true majority of Americans overwhelmingly oppose gun control despite earnest attempts by groups like Moms Demand Action to portray Americans as helpless hoplophobes in need of an ever-expanding nanny state.

The book's website explains:

"My Parents Open Carry was written in the hope of providing a basic overview of the right to keep and bear arms as well as the growing practice of the open carry of a handgun. We fear our children are being raised with a biased view of our constitution and especially in regards to the 2nd Amendment."

In contrast to the statist myth that people are afraid of guns, the authors express a very real and justified fear resulting from the literal "brainwashing campaign" by Eric Holder, Jesse Jackson and others to convince people that owning a gun is "...not cool, that it's not acceptable."
"We have to do this every day of the week and just really brainwash people into thinking about guns in a vastly different way." - US Attorney General Eric Holder

"We have to do this every day of the week and just really brainwash people into thinking about guns in a vastly different way."                                                       - US Attorney General Eric Holder

In a 1995 speech by Eric Holder that was aired on C-SPAN, the Obama regime's Attorney General deviously fantasized about devolving the American mind so that the natural right of self-defense would be as shameful as the self-detrimental habit of smoking. Holder explained: "over time, we changed the way that people thought about smoking, so now we have people who cower outside of buildings and kind of smoke in private and don’t want to admit it.”
Reflecting the true nature and traditions of American culture; the authors of My Parents Open Carry, Brian Jeffs and Nathan Nephew, took it upon themselves to address a neglected need thereby working to protect the rights of all Americans, regardless of whether or not they support human rights in regards to self-defense.

"Before writing this, we looked for pro-gun children's books and couldn't find any. Our goal was to provide a wholesome family book that reflects the views of the majority of the American people, i.e., that self-defense is a basic natural right and that firearms provide the most efficient means for that defense. We truly hope you will enjoy this book and read and discuss it with your children over and over again."

My Parents Open Carry is sold on Amazon.com for only $10.76 and is eligible for free shipping; evidence that the authors are motivated by a love for Liberty, not cashing in on the media frenzy surrounding the open carry issue. Bulk discounts are also available through the publisher, White Feather Press, LLC.
Even for families that are pro-gun, owning multiple copies of this important book is worth considering. While the book undoubtedly makes an excellent gift for nieces and nephews growing up in "progressive" households; too often parents passively assume that their values will be absorbed by their offspring instead of actively teaching the importance of, and reasons for, traditional values.

Today's children are increasingly likely to become adults that are diametrically opposed to the  Renaissance ideals that propelled Western civilization to the heights of human development. This is of course due in large part to the concerted effort by Globalists like Eric Holder that have permeated every facet of civilization.
In 2008 Professor of Advanced Constitutional Law at Denver University, David Kopel, addressed this threat in a piece entitled The Human Right of Self-Defense.

"The United Nations Human Rights Council has declared that there is no human right to self-defense. Moreover, the Council has ordered all governments to enact very restrictive gun laws (more severe than those of Washington, D.C., or New York City, for example), and has declared that failure to enact such laws constitutes a human rights violation. Further, the HRC states that it is a human rights violation for a government to allow a person to use a firearm in self-defense against a rapist or other criminal who is not attempting homicide."

-  David Kopel, The Human Right of Self Defense

Let that sink in for a moment...
"This can only be achieved through the progressive strengthening of international institu- tions under the United Nations and by creating a United Nations Peace Force to enforce the peace as the disarmament process proceeds." -Freedom From War, US State Department 1961

"This can only be achieved through
the progressive strengthening of international institutions under the United Nations and by creating a United Nations Peace Force to enforce the peace as the disarmament process proceeds."    - Freedom From War, US State Department 1961

The United Nations has declared that you have no right to self defense! To accept this edict means that even the provisional allowance of firearms use in order to prevent homicide is nothing more than a privilege granted by our self-appointed overlords! This 'privilege' would certainly be revoked should we allow the US State Department to fully implement Freedom From War, the 1961 plan for "General and Complete Disarmament".
This plan is publicly available on the Library of Congress website and reveals that the State Department has been working with the UN to render the world's population defenseless for more than half a century.
When John Kerry signed the infamous UN Arms Trade Treaty last year, the state media insisted that it was only a harmless piece non-binding, feel good philosophizing on the part of global orchestrators. However, that will change ninety days after the ATT has been ratified by 50 countries making it a binding and enforceable treaty. On June 4th of last year the UN gloated that eight more countries had signed on bringing the number to 40, only 10 short of the number necessary to begin disarmament of the world's population, forcibly if necessary.
The enemies of Freedom and Liberty are monolithic, tireless and unyielding. In contrast, the Liberty Movement has for too long stagnated; crippled by infighting, a lack of mutual support and laziness. We can no longer be contented by complaining and playing at armchair politics. We face a very real effort to literally enslave our own children that will succeed if we do not overcome our apathy, ignorance and laziness. For less than the cost of a fast-food meal one could purchase a copy of My Parents Open Carry and use it as a tool to strengthen mankind's defenses against tyranny.

Isn't that the least we could do?

Federal Judge Rules Aurora Victims Were ‘Sitting Ducks’

In a move that could signal a positive change in movie theater policies regarding a patron's right to self-defense, a Federal Judge has ruled that Cinemark Theaters in Aurora, Colorado should have had more security measures in place prior to the July, 2012 massacre. Obviously one of the most basic security allowances that Cinemark could implement would be allowing customers to be armed on the premises in accordance with state law.

A 2009 Federal Court ruling condemned Alamogordo, NM police officers that forcibly disarmed a moviegoer that was openly carrying a firearm in accordance with state law. [click for article]

U.S. District Court Judge R. Brooke Jackson's ...ruling does not decide the lawsuits' ultimate question: Did Cinemark do enough to try to prevent the shooting? The lawsuits argue Cinemark should have had extra security measures in place to discourage the attack and to stop it more quickly once it began.

Instead, Jackson's ruling denies what is known as a "motion for summary judgment" filed by Cinemark. Similar to a previously denied motion, the theater chain had argued that the lawsuits should be dismissed because the attack was "legally unforeseeable."

The trial is set for February.

CATI-Austin to Feed and Clothe the Homeless

CATI Austin, a community oriented, civil rights group focused on personal protection and self-defense will hold an event on May 31st to benefit the less fortunate in their local community.   aj redo pic

The Austin chapter of Come and Take It Texas is one of the nearly forty chapters across the state that is involved in organizing events designed to uplift the community.

Last year CATI Dallas partnered with DontComply.com in a similar event to feed the homeless.

The group provided over 300 fresh, hand prepared meals using both local produce and locally harvested game.

This month, C.A.T.I. Austin seeks to mirror that event and improve upon it by also distributing donated clothing and hygiene products.

Members of Come and Take It Texas say that they find it “incredibly fulfilling” to address these urgent needs that have become so common in today’s financial climate.

They’re also “especially proud” to be serving the many US military veterans that find themselves without any community support after they leave the service.

CATI Austin member Tom Jefferson stated: “We understand this is just one meal and a few items of clothes right now, but we hope to show the many in need that we have not forgotten about them.”

Come and Take It Texas is an entirely self-funded grassroots organization.

Their philosophy is inspired by civil rights heroes such as Rosa Parks who demonstrated the world changing power that one individual can wield when focused on societal evolution. They are quick to point out however that real change only occurs when others join in the effort.

Come and Take It Texas hopes that their projects inspire others to seek out a local chapter and help preserve the Texas traditions of responsibility and independence that are so crucial in maintaining a self-sustaining community.

Texans Rise Up Against the BLM – Draw a Line In The Sand!!!

On May 24, 2014 DontComply.com and  Come And Take It Texas will gather with fellow Texans at the Red River to stand up to the petty tyrants in the Bureau of Land Management.

Currently the BLM is revising it's Resource Management Plan for Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas which is clearly intended to further restrict land rights across these states and ensure that the Native American tribes that own mineral rights in these areas 'pay their fair share' to Uncle Sam.

Red riverAlthough Oklahoma BLM has issued a statement claiming that the BLM is not expanding it's holdings at the Red River, informed citizens remain skeptical.

Today a spokesperson for the BLM told DontComply.com that the BLM has no interest in 'surface management' at the Red River Management Area; however the BLM's Oklahoma Field Office Newsletter clearly recognizes the area as a focus and another recent BLM document mentions the Red River only once, under the heading ‘Oklahoma Field Office Mission – Surface Management‘

It seems that ultimately the US Federal Government intends to restrict Texas farmers and ranchers from accessing the Red River at any point along it's course, effectively placing unwarranted sanctions upon Texas agriculture.

While BLM has not yet stationed it's armed goons at the border, next month Texans will gather to send a clear message of what to expect if it tries.

Demonstrators intend to camp at the site over the weekend, an open-carry walk will be held in nearby Wichita Falls and the border between Texas and Oklahoma will be clearly demarcated with historic flags from both the Texas War for Independence as well as the American War for Independence.

All Liberty-loving Americans are invited to join us on MAY 24th as we stand against tyranny!

Keep an eye on this site, or our Come and Take It Texas Facebook pageCome and Take It America Facebook page, as well as DontComply.com and DontComply on Facebook for updates and more details.

War on Guns: Report from the Front Lines

Update: Andrews, TX Open Carry

Come and Take It Texas members in Andrews County, Texas are continuing to gain community support even within the Andrews Police Department which has been so hostile towards gun-rights activists.

On Saturday 4/12/14 demonstrators held a three-hour open carry walk including a break for lunch at Cassidy's Sub Shop, a local eatery owned by 2nd Amendment supporters.

On Saturday CATI also saw their first local detractor in Andrews.  A local man repeatedly drove past the group [which included women and children] cursing and making offensive hand gestures at them. Andrews Police officers spoke with the man and discouraged him from using obscenities should he decide to express himself further. The officer later stated that the offender is known to them as a difficult individual so it's no surprise that, like most of the anti-gun crowd, he maintained a classy and mature demeanor while expressing his opinions. (sarcasm intended)

Liberation of Andrews

Though CATI Andrews County has earned the respect of local law enforcement, many remain confounded by what seems to be an absence of logic within the Andrews District Attorney's office as the case against CATI member and former Army Sergeant Michael Keoughan moves forward.

Michael is now urgently seeking donations to help him raise $10,000 for legal representation in a case of clear-cut financial intimidation and abuse of office intended to discourage activists from demonstrating in Andrews, TX.

The small town has a history of intimidating and unlawfully arresting gun-rights activists. Andrews residents first approached Come and Take It Texas concerning this problem in November of 2013 and currently CATI is seeking the resolution of two separate cases involving the unlawful arrest of a military veteran and the prolonged confiscation of lawfully owned firearms.

There is ample evidence that Michael Keoughan violated no laws and the dash-cam footage from the arrest makes it clear that the arresting officers were aware of this. Law enforcement was also previously aware of Michael's identity and the reason he was in Andrews that day. CATI Midland/Odessa looks forward to making more footage and recordings available as soon as Michael's trial is over.

The DA's office has had plenty of time to research the facts in the case and make comparisons to preceding incidents around the state; assuming that they have done this, one wonders what motivates the city to waste taxpayer funds in order to soothe the wounded ego of their Chief of Police shortly before he vacates his office.

Although the town 12,000 still requires CATI to file permits for their educational walks, the situation in Andrews, TX is radically improving. Come and Take It Texas regards the situation as a textbook example of how their reasoned methods and educated activists can powerfully restructure a governmental body that has neglected the Constitution and overstepped it's lawful authority.

I Will Not Comply!

7 20 perfect smaller

Roughly a year ago I saw the video below and it inspired me. I sent a Facebook friend request to Connecticut fireman John Cinque and quietly studied Connecticut's descent into tyranny with the aid of local insight. A few weeks ago John made a chilling post about how odd it was to go to bed not knowing if he would awaken to his door being kicked in. He's shown the courage and conviction to stand up for what's right and like it or not, it almost certainly has made him a target for the socialist legislators in Connecticut.

When I re-posted this video on my Facebook page this month I was assuming that everyone had already seen it, but now with Connecticut in the news again John's defiance to anti-American gun laws has gone absolutely viral. I'm glad for that, the people of Connecticut need to know that we support them. It can't be easy standing alone at the front lines of a battle like theirs. Like you, I am a gun-owner, a Liberty-lover and I have a family that I intend to keep safe. While gun-confiscation and arrests may not yet be happening where you are, you would be fooling yourself to believe that it won't be attempted. If we each demonstrate the strength that this man has shown we will save our country and restore the republic. If we fail, then all is lost and our children will bear the worst of what would follow.

It's high time that we send a chilling message to the enemies of Freedom that have infiltrated our halls of government. Share this video with everyone you know and join the thousands of us that are pledged to stand and declare as John did: "I WILL NOT COMPLY!"

Thank you John,

your Brother-in-Arms,

James Franklin

Texas Veterans Illegally Arrested, Guns Confiscated

On the evening of November 30, 2013 Joey Posey, a veteran of the Army's 101st Airborne was arrested and jailed by police in Andrews, TX. He had taken a walk with his children to get ice cream and french fries and decided to openly carry his AR-15 in addition to his legally concealed handgun. Although the open carry of a longarm is legal in Texas, it was for this reason that he and his children found themselves forced to the ground as soon as the police arrived on the scene. For two months now SPC Posey has been in legal limbo. There have been no charges filed yet, his weapons have not been returned and his concealed-carry license has been suspended. What Joey didn't know when he left his house that night was that he was not the first person whose firearms rights have been suppressed in Andrews.

To show support for Joey Come and Take It Midland/Odessa organized an open carry walk in Andrews in the weeks after Joey's arrest. As the walk was coming to an end, Andrews police approached the group of demonstrators telling them that if they did not disperse they would be in violation of a municipal code that pertains to motor vehicle operation.

corner

Following that incident, three members of Come and Take It Texas met with Andrews, TX Police Chief Bud Jones to ensure that the rights of Texans would no longer be suppressed by his department and to get permits signed for their upcoming demonstrations in Andrews. In that meeting the Chief assured them that and understanding had been reached. He gave his word that he would do everything in his power to protect the legal rights of gun owners in the future.

At one time, when a Texan made a promise and shook your hand, you could rest assured that he would keep his word. Unfortunately, Chief Bud Jones failed to keep his word, and he failed to honor the oath that he swore to the Constitution.

On January 22nd, 2014 former Army Sergeant Michael Keoughan, one of the CATI members that met with Chief Jones, went to Andrews to survey the approved route for their next open carry walk. Given the multiple reports that Andrews PD had used intimidation to 'convince' people not to open carry in Andrews, Michael also wanted to film himself open carrying that day and prove to the members of the the new CATI chapter in Andrews that they no longer needed to fear their police department. Sadly, Michael was illegally arrested that day, and his weapons were unlawfully confiscated. CATI recorded their meeting with the Chief, and have posted some of that interview on their YouTube channel but the local media refuses to address this part of the story. It seems the 'good ol' boy' system is still alive and well in West Texas.

As if this story wasn't bad enough;

When a local news station posted a story on their Facebook page about Keoughan's arrest and the upcoming CATI demonstration to be held in Andrews, a resident of that town made threats against the group in the comments section of the post.

threat 1 threat 2

Two of CATI's members were so concerned by the threats that they contacted Andrews PD to file a report in case the man did make good on his threats. One of the members, an over-the-road trucker, was told that a report would not be taken. The officer went on to inform the caller that the town was full of "rednecks" that would likely shoot members of CATI and that the victims could expect that the person would never be found or brought to justice. After that the officer hung up and did not answer again.

A Sheriff's Deputy was recorded as he made a similar comment to CATI members while they were waiting for Keoughan to be released from Andrews County Jail.

Another CATI member was told that a report could not be made over the phone but, if she would make the seventy mile drive to Andrews, that a report could be made in person. She immediately drove to Andrews only to find that the entire police department was too busy "in a meeting" to speak with her. A Texas Ranger stationed in Andrews made it clear that no one was going to take a report, calling the posts a "perceived threat".

Local media has ignored these two cases of dereliction of duty, just as they have refused to report the facts showing that both of these veterans have been victims of Official Oppression

UPDATE:

10478241_160812600755957_698141323229237571_n

In the last week of May 2014 the City of Andrews Police Department officially ceased it's attempt to charge Joey Posey with a crime having found no wrongdoing and Joey's lawfully owned weapons were finally returned to him. However Michael Keoughan is still facing charges and will appear in court on Sept. 03, 2014 with his lawyer at the expense of $10,000. Please contact Police Chief Bud Jones concerning this financial oppression and help us achieve a victory for human rights in west Texas.

Texas Senator John Cornyn Joins Obama in the War On Guns

Image

It was announced earlier this week that Texas Senator John Cornyn has introduced a bill called the Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act.

Supporters say that this is an important bill that, if ratified, would help to preserve our embattled Second Amendment and prevent federal infringement upon the rights of gun owners.

But let’s examine that assumption more closely.

For starters, our founders intended that our right to arms would never be infringed upon. Meaning that American citizens should be able to freely keep and bear all of the military armaments necessary to defend our country from our enemies both foreign and domestic. Yet each time the federal government has overstepped it’s bounds and enacted weapons regulations we have seen our rights infringed upon. These infringements often violate multiple amendments in the Bill of Rights simultaneously.

This week the progressive propaganda machine strategically filled the wires with fluff pieces about a Senator that one would assume to be a political enemy and helped to shore up Cornyn’s ‘conservative’ credentials in the wake of recent attacks on his record. Similarly the NRA has endorsed Senator Cornyn which stands out as a red flag to politically savvy gun owners.

What the bill’s supporters fail to mention is that concealed-carry reciprocity is already well established by the states that are not waging a jihad on all things weapon-related.  It’s this fact that highlights what may be the most glaring flaw in the perspective of the bill’s supporters. This bill is another assault on our Tenth Amendment that would further strip away states’ rights and grant unconstitutional authority to the federal government.

Clearly, the deceptively named “Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act” is a fraud from the start reminiscent of Obama’s “Affordable Health Care Act”. It’s certainly believable that a politically shrewd Senator Cornyn may have proposed the bill at this time in an attempt to distract Liberty-conscious voters from his political record.

One of the hottest debates in Texas politics right now is whether or not John Cornyn is a ‘liberal’ or a ‘conservative’. However we can make short work of this debate simply by reading Senator John Cornyn’s Top Ten Worst Votes as posted by FreedomWorks] There we find that the Senator works to represent the interests of the federal government to the detriment of all Americans.

Perhaps that’s why the opponents of Senator Cornyn’s bill argue that it's true purpose is to be the first step on the road towards federal gun permits.  Cornyn’s proposed legislation is not just unnecessary but the implementation of it will certainly necessitate additional government spending. Given that our nation nearly went bankrupt only two months ago, even Constitutionally-indifferent Americans have good cause to call foul on Cornyn’s fraud.

Why I Joined C.A.T.I. (By James Franklin)

1452333_586480434750633_1190732949_nFor each of us involved in the Open Carry movement there is of course a unique combination of reasons for our involvement. Some in our ranks find themselves involved in activism for the first time while others are involved in several causes including Open Carry and Second Amendment rights. As for myself I’ve been interested and involved in other grassroots movements over the years, most of which are still important issues for me, but never before have I been so singularly dedicated to just one issue.

As a Texan I’m proud that we’re among the first, if not the first people mentioned whenever the subject of Constitutional Open Carry comes up. Texans everywhere are proud to proclaim that we are the “most American of all American citizens. The virtues of independence, self-reliance, and each of the natural birth-rights of an American that are enumerated in our country’s Constitution are the vital components that a Texan’s soul is comprised of.  My family consists of a long line of determined and willful people that have charted their own path on this continent since before 1616 AD beginning with John Johnson, an Ancient Planter, in the Jamestown Colony of Virginia.  Many of us have been farmers and others military men, business owners and tradesmen. We helped to wrestle this land from the British and make it our own. Later we moved westward carving out homesteads in uncharted forests and unfamiliar territory. We eventually settled in Texas having found a home among like-minded people; and we kept on doing as we always had, raising our families and contributing to our communities.

Though this story is my own I imagine that it’s familiar to most of you; and so our organization is comprised of people and families that willfully accept the burden of self-governance. We know that a people without self-determination are like so many cattle afield. They are owned, possessing neither rights nor privileges. Likewise, we recognize that our duty to preserve our Constitution cannot be carried out if we are uninformed concerning our country. We have all seen the direction that our country has been progressing on at an ever-quickening pace. It is without question that our government is no longer one that is ‘of the people, by the people and for the people’. The historians among us will confirm that none of us have ever lived in the country that our founders intended for us to inherit. Since long before we were born the effort to undermine, nullify, and render our Constitution void has been well under-way. Yet in the past two decades this ignoble war has been waged against us so openly and shamelessly that even people who are apolitical are suddenly very concerned with what’s going on behind the closed doors of government.

While the path of our country is on conjures up a whole host of emotions, it gives us hope that each day more people are paying attention to what’s happening. Many believe that it is precisely for this reason that our right to own firearms is being restricted from all sides with a zeal never before seen. Indeed, in many places around the country knives, bows and even hammers have become highly regulated items, if not contraband. Sadly, it is in these areas where the Second Amendment has been nullified that we see the highest rates of crime including murder, and the victimization of women and children.  In states and municipalities that still “allow” for the private ownership of firearms there exists ‘victim disarmament zones’ otherwise known as ‘gun-free zones’ and similarly it is precisely in these locations that we see disturbed individuals flocking to in order to perpetrate the mass killings that are cited as the reasons for further disarmament of innocent, law-abiding people.

I am a husband and a father and quite frankly I will not allow my right to secure the safety of my family to be restricted, nor do I intend to stand silent as our other rights are continuously infringed upon by those that exempt themselves from the laws that they write for us.

Over the course of the past few years the relative safe-haven of my state has been encroached upon by anti-Constitutionalists to the degree that writing and talking about what needs to be done no longer sufficed and I began looking for something more to do. The question was never whether or not I should get involved but rather how to get involved. It was late in September and I was just sitting down to take off my boots after work, when my oldest boy asked me if I had heard about the upcoming “armed march at the Alamo”.  I think he intended to surprise & impress me with how much he was ‘in the loop’, and surprise me he did. I’d been so busy putting in twenty hours a day or more in the oilfield that I hadn’t heard a thing about it.  I guess the opportunity to specify the difference between an “Open Carry rally” and “armed march” had never presented itself so once I had found what was being planned for the “Come and Take It San Antonio” event I explained it to him and made plans to attend. Unfortunately for me, the work in the West Texas oilfields stops for no man and I wasn’t able to make it. In the days that followed I found out that this was being hailed as the first group demonstration at the Alamo since the battle that turned that small building into an historical icon. As a proud Texan and an ardent defender of the Constitution it was particularly painful to have missed such an historic and meaningful event.  Over the next couple of weeks I felt a type of regret that was similar to the blow I received when my enlistment into the military ended after only a few days and I was simultaneously diagnosed with Lupus. In the early hours of October 29th as I was switching on the coffee pot I was hit with a certainty that it was not simply a desire, but rather a need to start an Open Carry group in my hometown. For the rest of that day it was all I could think about. Some of it was nervousness, some of it was an invigorating drive but more present than any other thought was the overwhelming certainty that this would become the singular, most powerful action that I had yet taken to ensure that I do everything I can to help remake our country into a Constitutionally adherent one before passing it on to my children. When I got home that night I told my wife what I was planning and asked her to join hands with me and to help me make it happen.

We’ve established a mutually respectful relationship with our local police department and tomorrow we’ll be spreading the word about our organization’s presence and purpose on a local AM radio show called The Morning Drive. This past Sunday the front page of the local paper featured a picture of my wife and me ordering coffee in a local coffee shop with rifles on our backs and on Monday morning the AM stations were buzzing about gun rights and Open Carry. At the same time the newspaper was posting pictures on Facebook showing my wife and me braving 19 degree temperatures with our Gonzales flag and rifles on our backs. Two hours later our membership had nearly doubled. We held two walks that Saturday; on the first walk, a newspaper photographer found the two of us and asked a few questions while taking the pictures.  A few hours later we met up with one of our founding members and a recent mayoral candidate and we were also joined by the newspaper photographer. Only this time instead of a camera he was carrying a Remington 700.

This Saturday we will be holding our fourth walk and certainly our biggest one yet. It occurs to me how fortunate we’ve been and how much we’ve been able to accomplish in such a short time. I don’t have the words to describe how great it feels to be making a difference and to have a hand in shaping history. We’ve done so much in the past few weeks that while the time has flown by, it somehow seems like we’ve been doing this for years and I feel like a new man.  As Stephanie and I were reviewing the analytics on our Youtube channel last night, we were amazed at how popular Saturday’s video was. Less than 6% of our views were from the link to our group on the newspapers Facebook and we’ve received views from Germany, Mexico, and a couple of other foreign countries. The look of joy and pride in my wife’s eyes was unlike any I’d ever seen before and I will never forget it. I’m eagerly looking forward to being joined by our sons in the future and I’m proud to know that preservation of Freedom is quickly becoming one our family traditions. It’s exciting to imagine what great things our boys will be inspired to do in their adulthood because of what they’re learning now.

If you have considered, or are considering taking part in an Open Carry walk either with a group or even as an individual, then you know in your heart how important and worthwhile it is. I urge you to indulge your Liberty-loving nature. Get in contact with a person or group like Come and Take It America that can help you make the necessary preparations and show you what steps to take. Stand with us and with our forefathers so that you too may proudly bear the title of Patriot.
