(lohud) The AR-15 and the AR-10 by Black Rain Ordnance would eliminate several features that were made illegal under the SAFE-Act approved in January 2013, such as no pistol grip and a non-threaded muzzle.
"With the continual trampling of the 2nd Amendment in New York, Black Rain Ordnance is proud to announce their 'New York Compliant' rifles," the company said on its website. "These rifles feature all of the quality and craftsmanship of the standard BRO-lines, but with the added features that allow for legal possession."
The manufacturer is the latest to produce high-powered rifles that comply with New York law as a key April 15 deadline to register existing guns approaches.
Just Right Carbines, based in Canandaigua, Ontario County, has been producing a carbine rifle since August that complies with the SAFE Act, general manager Anthony Testa said. The grip was modified to comply with state law.
"Everybody is doing basically the same thing, which is basically adopting a stock that was originally produced for the California market and basically adopting that stock for the New York market," Testa told Gannett's Albany Bureau today.
He said the company has sold only about 100 of the weapons since August, a small portion of the roughly 12,000 various guns it sold through the country last year.
He said State Police haven't indicated to him that the modified weapon is non-complaint, but have refused to put it in writing.
"As far as I’m concerned, until you tell me and you can show me how it’s illegal, we’re using it," Testa told Gannett's Albany Bureau today.
